DeJuan Blair Dominates All-Star Rookie Challenge
Not that it was a surprise to any Spurs fan in attendance, but DeJuan Blair completely dominated the Rookie Challenge game at this year's All-Star festivities. The annual game between NBA rookies and sophomores is usually won by the "veterans", but Blair scored 22 points and hauled in 23 rebounds to lead the rookie team to victory.
Rookie Challenge MVP Tyreke Evans acknowledged Blair's monster effort, saying he was sharing his MVP trophy with the Spurs rookie.
Blair's performance was reminiscent of the January 13th game between the Spurs and the Thunder, where Blair scored 28 points and notched 21 rebounds for the first 20/20 game of his career. His All-Star performance was the first 20/20 game in the Rookie Challenge's history.
Blair has done the most with limited minutes thus far in February, averaging about 13 points in just over 20 minutes of play per game. For the season, Blair has averaged 7.7 points and 6.5 rebounds in under 19 minutes of play per game. His energy on the boards has carried the Spurs at times, and the team sits just 1.5 games behind Dallas in the Western Conference's Southwest Division at the All-Star break. |
