DUI/DWI in Txas: What Every Driver Needs to Know
by Jacque Crouse
It’s a criminal charge that cuts across all social classes and income levels, and it receives a lot of publicity and attention in the media. But despite all the hype given to DWI cases, most people really aren’t sure where to turn if someone in their family is arrested and charged.
As with most criminal charges, the first step is to find an attorney who is well acquainted with the criminal laws in Texas and who perhaps specializes in DWI/DUI cases. The laws governing DWI and DUI are not the same in every state, and Texas is different from many others, according to Houston attorney Doug Murphy, who is one of only four board-certified DWI/DUI attorneys in Texas.
“In Texas, there are limited instances of DUI,” he explains. “The legal age to drink alcohol is 21, and if a driver under 21 is stopped, any alcohol use at all is considered DUI.”

Reasons to Hire Attorney Before Being Charged
People are arrested for many different reasons and the first thing they should do after being arrested is call a criminal defense attorney. However, people usually wait to see what kinds of charges they are facing before hiring an attorney. This is a huge mistake for several reasons.
Keep in mind that the arresting officer(s) will continue to ask you questions. However, your criminal attorney will help you by suggesting you don't answer their questions. He/she doesn't want you saying anything that could hurt you in the court of law. Most cops will be quite causal and friendly but it's a ploy for you to lower your guard. Remember they are looking for breaks in your story and will pay very close attention to all answers. Innocent statements you make can be turned against you and can hinder your attorney in court.

When Do You Need a Medical Malpractice Lawyer?
The word “litigation” is rarely considered to be a positive term. Most people view litigation as a necessary (or unnecessary) evil, and many individuals will waive their right to sue for damages even in the case of wrongful death. However, one reason for seeking legal counsel if you have suffered injury or loss is to protect your rights, even against those individuals and organizations whose purpose should be to protect you. Another reason is to obtain full and fair compensation for your injuries and property damage.
