Maya Angelou Brings Poetry, Passion to S.A. Planned Parenthood Supporters

I was mere feet from a living legend. Maya Angelou, author, poet, teacher, superhero, was on stage, re-living her youth, while I was crouched on the floor, taking photos. I didn’t really need to take photos, the magazine sent a photographer who is likely far more talented than I, but holding a camera gave me permission to kneel at the feet of a genius, humbled by her presence. I was also kneeling to avoid having the top of my head on the Grand Hyatt’s closed-circuit video feed. But mostly it was the humbled thing. I was in Maya Angelou’s personal space bubble.
