Do Do That Voodoo That You Do So Well ...

Now that the initial concern about Haiti has quieted and been relegated to the back porch (the horror and suffering will roll along in the background), it is natural for our concerns to shift elsewhere.  After voicing our horror at what happened, giving one or two donations and a prayer or two, what more can we do?

The one issue lingering on the Internet is Reverend Robinson’s assertions about Haitians and Satan. He is still denounced as a “crazy, senile, drooling idiot.” The problem is that he is correct―well, sorta.

Can You Cancan?

In a time when the world seems upside down, where black is called white and night called day, it is perhaps instructive to look back to other chaotic times. I admit a fondness for “lost” history. By that I mean events which were awesome in scope but now are almost completely forgotten. I realize that most people do not harbor a great fascination for history (along with many mathematics courses, specifically, statistics). I truly understand as they are often taught without joie de vivre to say the least.

 Ding, Dong, The Witch is Dead ... We Hope.

I know I went over this last month so pardon the repetition but I must use it again to make a different point. I am still striving to get people to understand the difference between cachet which means a stamp of authenticity and cache, which means a hiding place. Why repeat this? Firstly, repetition is the high road to learning something; secondly, as George Orwell pointed out, such lapses in proper English represent the degeneration of thought, a daily ongoing event.
